Sports đŸ„Œ 2025 College Football Thread - UNC home games are sold out for the season

Utah State is in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the fifth time vs Washington State in Boise Idaho on the blue carpet.

Looks like Michigan is very late to the coaching search party. :r:
Wow
I didn’t have that one on my Bingo Card. But good for Michigan at finally holding people accountable. I liked Moore, but it is a shame that he “had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member”.

I wonder what would have happened if he had beaten OSU. Would they have confronted but kept him?

Now there is a Michigan man.... ;)

I want to make fun of the situation, but honestly I have two major issues:

1. It is a terrible situation for his wife and kids, and honestly just looks like a completely douchebag thing to do. Then if the rumors of him then threatening both women and stating he wanted to kill himself are true, it makes it an even more sad situation.
2. It now means Michigan may get an actually good coach.

Rumor also has it that Michigan knew for a bit, but was just waiting out the recruiting cycle, which is pretty terrible if true. It will be interesting to see the impact of recruits leaving - but I would guess with the clearly upgraded coaching situation, they are going to see little loss there and could even gain some transfers.

Doubtful - all of the "good" HC candidates have either already moved up for more $$$ or signed extensions. Michigan is in dumpster-fire territory (for now) after yesterday.

And Letters of Intent are not nearly as binding as they used to be so even with high school recruits signing they can still get get out of it.

I was wondering the same thing as MSkis about what would have happened had Michigan beaten OSU but as more reporting came out and going back over some quotes from other people in the program over the final few weeks of the season it did sound like maybe the writing was on the wall for Moore and Michigan may have indeed been waiting out the recruiting cycle. Of course, now that Moore is out, isn't anybody who already committed to Michigan free to go basically anywhere else? If Michigan was waiting out the recruiting cycle, they may have just shot themselves in the foot if this causes a bunch of decommits. Biff Poggi was named interim coach and there were more than a few interviews with players and write ups from commentators during the season about how everybody on the team LOVES Poggi so maybe that's a good sign that they won't have quite as much player turnover as they would otherwise? They've also got Wink Martindale who has had some success at the NFL level as an assistant coach so maybe that will be a draw for some of the players? Who knows what else might shake up from all of this though if it turns out others on the staff knew of Moore's affair with a staff member.

I will say that as more and more news came out yesterday evening about the entire situationI feel this is sort of like the Ron Burgundy "That escalated quickly!" meme. :omg:

True!

I have not seen fireworks like this since Tiger Woods had a window smashed out of his SUV...

EDIT...
I have to say that as a Michigan fan, I am profoundly disappointed in former coach Moore's actions. I had such high hopes that he could be the beginning of a long and stable program only to learn that he is quite unstable in his personal life. The University did the right thing and frankly, I think his actions earlier this week left them no other choice.

After 21 seasons at Utah's HC, Kyle Whittingham will retire from coaching and move to an advisor role, per his contract, for $3.45 million a year for two years. Morgan Scalley has been promoted to HC. Whit leaves Utah as the most winning coach at 177-88.

fireworks

Well, a nuclear bomb ain’t fireworks, it’s, umm, a bomb. The impact from this detonation is slowly expanding, its effective range could very well be a larger circle of immense damage. Ain’t no way any sane Wolverine-enjoyer would call these events “fireworks” lol!
