I like that show because it's mercifully short run and the sitcom tropes are not overbearing because of the cast.

RIP [really old person who died expectedly].
I always felt it was (mostly due to Cleese's energy) juuuust unhinged enough without being completely wacky.

We have a good friend who grew up near Torquay where this was set- and worked in a seaside tearoom for bit in the 1980's. The depictions of the tourists in the show, she says, are spot-on.

In light of Former Vice President Cheney’s death:

The custom is to close Federal offices for the day and fly flags at half-mast for a period of time.

Considering Federal offices have been closed for weeks, I don’t anticipate that happening. As for the flags at half-mast, I drove by the post office* this morning and the flags were all the way up.

By the way, if the Feds close, our City Hall
closes too.

* I know not a Federal agency, but they follow Federal guidelines

Given the open hostility between Trump and the Cheneys, it will be interesting to see if flags are ordered to be lowered to half staff.

IMO, it would be chicken-shit not to order it, but Trump does fit that particular bill ...

Some things transcend politics though, and this is one.

Should be recognized for his service not his politics
Congressman
Secretary of Defense
Vice President

Agreed. However, Trump does whatever the f*ck he wants and he hates the Cheneys - Liz in particular, and old line conservatives in general - so we'll see.

Cheney is the one that backed Hillary into a closet and told her Saddam had a suitcase nuke, they knew it, and she could not tell anyone she and they knew it. It is the reason she supported that invasion.

I was not aware of this. I certainly remember other POTUS and VEEP deaths before and a day of mourning being declared but I never realized federal offices were closed.

co-wrote the classics “Green Onions,” “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” and “In the Midnight Hour,”
was in the movie “The Blues Brothers”
Terry Gross interviewed him on Fresh Air in 1990. A very likeable fellow that knew early he did not like the road. He just wanted to play rhythm. I grew up listening to Otis, and saw him and that whole band play at Macon City Auditorium. In mid-sixties.

I read where Rob Reiner once said that when he passes away the headlines will read "Meathead dies" :ha:

Rob Reiner’s best films
This Is Spın̈al Tap (1984)
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
A Few Good Men (1992)

A few weeks ago I was looking at the Penny Marshall filmography and that lead me to the Rob Reiner filmography. Up until that point, I had no idea that he had directed A Few Good Men and Misery. When I think of Rob Reiner films I always think of the lighter stuff like Spın̈al Tap, Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and Stand by Me (is that a light one?). He definitely had some range!

Reiner also founded Castle Rock Entertainment which produced some other great films under his watch (Shawshank Redemption, City Slickers, Honeymoon in Vegas, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show...)
