All because cars are their top priority. One project in San Diego was canceled because it "appears to reduce lane capacity and a road diet that is hostile to motor vehicles," while a Fairfield, Alabama project was also called "hostile" to cars and "counter to DOT's priority of preserving or increasing roadway capacity for motor vehicles." Meanwhile, a project in Boston got canceled because improving safety might "impede vehicle capacity and speed."
These aren't new grants, either. The Trump administration is going after money that was awarded years ago — one Albuquerque grant was awarded back in 2022 — all with the goal of making sure no driver is ever slightly inconvenienced by local governments trying to keep them from killing people. Well, this is frustrating.
We have an internal policy requiring all our development services staff to get their CIS-100 certification. If/when we activate the EOC, I want staff to at least understand what people are talking about when staff gets reassigned.

I think there is some merit to the idea, but I know a lot of old men in their 70s who were diehard democrats before switching to the Republican party with Regan.I am reading a book on communication right now, and the author pointed out something about personal identity. He noted that the associations we belong to, the believes we have, the political parties we subscribe to, can become as much of our identity as how we look or the profession that we are in. He didn't dwell on the political party thing, but did expand on the idea that when we attack someone's beliefs, for many it is as if we are attacking them as a person.
That is when I realized a massive part of the problem. We (as a society) go beyond beliefs in policies and wholistically adhere to the entirety of a political platform or movement.
If you think about it for a moment, if you ask someone who aligns themselves with the Republican Party, specific characteristics and if they would support someone who is a narcissistic womanizer, they would say of course not. But the same could have been said about the Democrat Party during the Clinton Administration.
There are fundamental principals and policies from both parties that I think are essential for the future of this civilization. But unless we stop focusing on the party and start focusing on those principals, it won't get any better.
