Worst Ethnic Cuisine AIB Ethnic food preferences

Oh my, I thought the food in Ireland was pretty bad, but there is worse out there?!?

Lets put it this way, my family was excited when we encountered a McDonalds!

Ethopian is the worst I've had - just not my thing.

I spent two weeks in Moscow in 1984. I lost fifteen pounds. The food was the worst I ever had. After leaving there and flying to Frankfurt, I took a train to Copenhagen. Right near the train station there was a McDonalds. I felt like a stupid American but I loaded up at McDonalds -- it never tasted better.

Cred restoration: I haven't eaten at a McDonalds in over four years.

I've tried and tried, I just don't like any type of curry...so most Indian is out for me. My neighbors apparently love curry though :r:

I love curry. I just love the feeling when it touches your lips... :p

I had Korean once. I'm not even sure what I ate.

I agree with Korean. It is just too out there for me. Lots of sour and crunchy flavors that just don't hit my palate right.

I don't do any sort of seafood, so it stands to reason cultures heavy in the seafood department rate at the bottom of my list.

My least favorite? Vietnamese.

Found this survey http://www.titanicawards.com/2009/06/17/who-has-the-worlds-worst-national-cuisine/

Top worst were:

1st Britain
2nd United States
3rd China
4th Russia
5th Germany, Australia
6th Ireland

Agree? Disagree? Other candidates?

Obviously, the 10+% who voted for the US national cuisine have never sampled such true American delicacies as chicken wings, barbecued ribs, fried chicken, barbecued chicken, chicken fried steak, meatloaf or fried battered fish (ie, fish fry), and obviously are not fans of potatoes in their three natural states: baked, fried, or mashed. What about mac 'n' cheese and PBJ?

I hate food snobs! :-@

Like Mendelman, I don't like Ethopian food - although I will admit that my opinion is based on a single visit to an Ethopian restaurant many years ago.

I like most ethnic cuisines that I've had.

The list is BS, and probably based on stereotypes of what's considered that nation's cuisine; American fast food, and British boiled everything.

Cuisines I never took a liking to:

* Russian. Beets, borscht, cabbage ... yuk.

* Tibetan. When I lived in Denver, a woman I dated at the time took me to a Tibetan restaurant in Boulder. There wasn't one thing on the menu that I found appealing.

* General Eastern European cuisine.

Though I love most authentic Asian foods that I have tried (Japanese, Thai, Loatian, Vietnamese),

I loathe most Chinese and Korean dishes unless they are Americanized. I'm not sure what the differences are exactly, but the spices always bug me.

I thought for a moment that maybe we should have hooked up, but no. I will not touch any seafood. You need to do the Duke picky eaters survey like I did today if you are, in fact, a picky eater. I know I am. Duke, clinical trials, eating disorders, picky eaters.

I used to love Italian but I'm going off my feed there over the last few years.

Oh my lord! What is wrong with you people???? ;):p Those are some of my favorite cuisines!

MP, next time you're in NYC try out this wonderful little Ethiopian place in the East Village. We're going to the Dandy's show in November and will be hitting Meskel for our pre-show dinner. We're counting down the days.:h:

I was not a fan of the Irish or Scottish pub food. bleck.

As a semi-vegetarian, I wasn't "forced" to try any of those yucky meat dishes like haggis :victory: or black pudding 8-! when we visited Scotland and Ireland. But I loved the Finnan Haddie, oatcakes with orange marmalade, and shortbread in Scotland, and I had an easier time finding vegetarian items on restaurant menus than I do in the U.S. In Ireland, I ate a lot of salmon, potatoes, and vegetables like carrots, cabbage, and cauliflower - with a pint of Guinness! - which was just fine by me. :)

The vegetarian dishes at the Ethopian place sound good, dandy - but I've badmouthed Ethopian cuisine for so long, I don't think I could get anyone to go there with me... :r:

We're always looking for an excuse to go to that restaurant. Meeting you can be our excuse. ;)
