Because I spent most of my disposable income over the years on Volvos and my record collection, I haven't really had the chance to get inked much. I have two small DIY tats on right ankle from when I was 17, and a Rush "Starman" logo on my left leg from when I was 26.

My next tattoo will be an idea that I first had at 16. A half-sleeve on my left upper arm of the Rush - Farewell to Kings album art, with the puppet king and building ruins behind him. The fact that I still think this tat would be badass and still love Rush means that I know it's a great idea ;) Even my anti-Prog punk friends think the art is cool!

What would your next ink be?

My niece is a tattooist in Salem, OR (Tender Heart Tattoo if you are in Salem and need to add ink). When my wife there last year, she had her do four butterflies on her ankle for our three boys and the boy we lost at 20 weeks. I've thought of getting something similar to represent my family. If I do, the oldest will be represented by deer or elk antlers as he lives to hunt. The middle will be a rubber duck since he loved them when he was little and would not go to sleep unless he was holding one. The youngest would be old fashioned V8 car emblem since he loves working on engines and things auto related. The boy we lost may be a stylized B since his name would have been Benjamin. And my wife? Probably a butterfly. Yes, I can have a butter fly tattoo. I figure the boys would be at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock with my wife in the center.

For a long time I have ponded getting a tattoo of the UP of Michigan. But never have.

My sister and brother-in-law have a bunch of them. My sister got her first one when she was 16 and it required my parents to sign off on it. She played it so well. She got a butterfly on her shoulder shortly after my grandmother passed away to honor grandma's memory.

One of the surprising things about me is that I don't have any tattoos, given how much I tend to hangout in the arts community world and also tend to admire tattoos as an interesting art form. A lot of my hesitation has been figuring out something unique, and also my skin can be pretty reactive so I also want to figure out a small test tattoo that I'll like.

I've got a rough design of what I want... some type of map-style tattoo of the place I've lived the last 25 years. I'm leaning towards something done in the style of a LOTR fantasy world map, likely on upper thigh.

I'm also interested in a nature-style tattoo on my chest or bicep that represents my family

...only trouble with tatts is they likely will begin to look like bruises as we segue through the decades. Because I bruise easily and stay active outdoors I bruise a lot while working in the woodlot.

I have at times considered getting the "Wyoming Cowboy" with "Lincoln County, 1938" print in a circle around it, for my dad. Left shoulder, maybe? But honestly, probably no tattoos for me.

I like the idea of tattoos. On other people. I've seen some amazing art, including this young lady in a bar in Austin.

But I can't picture getting one myself.

My youngest is a tatooist, trying to get an apprenticeship as we speak. They got a new tat yesterday on their shoulder of Laika the Soviet cosmonaut pup, with some six-pointed stars. Pretty cool.

I'm going to let them do a small stylized compass rose on my inside wrist. I take an 81mg chewable aspirin on my doc's orders: I hope I don't bleed too bad.

My tattoo is still meaningful to me. It's a copy of my dad's handwriting that reads "Love you lots". I got it when I was in my 50's.
You made me cry, and now I have to catch the bus and will probably do the "public transportation cry" that everyone enjoys so much. Seriously though, that's a good one.

I have a few tattoos on my arms and one on my chest. I made a promise to my wife years ago for no more tattoos and for the longest time I didn't want anymore but then one day a couple years ago our youngest wanted to draw me a picture so I randomly asked for a robot and the drawing she made would make a perfect tattoo for the inside of my left forearm to even out with the tattoo I have on the inside of my right forearm.

My next tattoo will look like the last one: nothing!

Just not my thing. I don't judge folks for having them but the permanence of it just is too scary for me.

I agree with you. The tattoo artist told me that the small one I got is my gateway tattoo. Not true. I haven't even considered getting another one.

I asked a coworker if she thought about whether she'd still identify with a large cartoon character tattoo when she's an old woman. My question made her pretty mad. 🤣

I'm kind of like SR. No tattoos, but I like the idea. Today I'm just old and wouldn't spend the money on it because there are so many other things I would spend that money on.

If I get a tattoo, it's Baby Nicholas riding a brown bear. My kids favorite stuffed animals.

This is a Baby Nicholas, the brown bear is just a bear. Not a teddy bear, a bear.
