Cyburbans 🧐 The Cyburbian Emeritus Thread

Can we get the first post to list names with links to their profiles? I will add / edit that if everyone is good with it.

Go ahead and edit my first post. If that doesn't work we can unstick mine and stick the new one.

donk, Budgie, PlannerGirl, Mastiff, otterpop, Duke Of Dystopia?
Lots of members move along in their lives and stop posting on forums/various media. It doesn't necessarily mean they have passed.
If you use the members feature, you can search for when a member last visited. @Budgie hasn't visited since 3-2-11 but @Tide was here as recently as 3-27-23.

Yes, I stated as such in a different thread asking about past members which lead to this thread.

And Jaws! He was a virtuoso-level troll but it make for good threads.

Web 1.0 Forums of all types have been decimated by social media for a long time now (I was part of a few car and music forums that have all but died), but FB is a zoo of misinformation now, and Reddit seems like it's on the way out now that they've destroyed their public image. Maybe there can be a forum resurgence?

I have a strong inkling this may be part of Web 3.0, similar to how the A/V streamers have all come back to realizing the ad-supported system was the optimal format of revenue generation.

Cyburbia's interface is well optimized for desktop, tablet and phone hardware formats ( all hail @Dan ), so accessibility should be easy for those that wish to return/start.

Whatever happened to Tide? And Cardinal? And CPSURaf? And the legendary ChocolateChip?
Alive! Just under a different handle "arcplans". My posting has really really dropped with increasing responsibility at my job, being a homeowner, and now dealing with teens. If you go back to the wayback machine I talk about my toddler daughter... she is starting college next week.

Honestly, I think online forums really was the best layout. They lost popularity with the other mediums, even though they never seemed as good.

Still alive and well just no time for "extras" like cyburbia, especially when the city I work for has led the state in total growth the past 2 years. That and half my 6 kids play soccer which I am the coach of one team. I'm on Facebook and Linkedin with some of you, even met a few face to face over my years. Private Message me if you want to connect.

Wow!

I had some projects with tight deadlines, so I couldn't check in during work hours for a while. You never know when a supervisor is going to walk by your cube.

What about our favorite trolls that we banned and blocked several times?
Well they wouldn't be missed now would they?
I believe that if I say Urban 19's name three times while looking in a mirror in the dark, they will appear in my bathroom mirror and curse my household and maybe drag me to a Forever 21 in the Upside Down where I will be asked repeatedly by undead mall-rats if I think I'm in a Lifestyle Center or a Power Center.

I sometimes ask myself whether Im a troll or not. All I seem to want to do these days is post about these:

I think we might need to add our dear old friend @78rpm aka "Shellac & Vinyl Velocity". Shelly and I were in touch over the years and often talked about odd/eccentric subjects, and we spoke last at the end of 2022 around the time she really began to suffer from the complications of Kidney Disease. I didn't know her Government name so I have not been able to find an obituary.

Shelly if you are still with us, we miss you.

I always enjoyed her takes on different subjects and she would reach out to me when I was going through some stuff.

Her last login was in March 2024.

I know she lives (lived?) in Queensl. Thing is, not too many people in NYC have obits in the big 4 newspapers, and looking for online obituaries for everybody named Shelly, Michelle, Shelley, etc would be a daunting task, at least for a NYC borough. I hope she's okay, but if not, thank you for hanging out with us. :)

(If she turns out to be alive, I'll delete this.)

My first car was a 1981 Ford Granada,. Just sayin'.
