Recognition for outgoing commissioners

Mods - Not sure if this is right space, feel free to move.

We have a few PC members who are about to role off. Some of them have been on the Commission for a long time. Like many commissioners they've served on multiple boards and committees over their careers and I don't want to get them a plaque that goes in the closet. They range from members serving one 6 year term to a few that have been on the Commission 20+ years. We also have an outgoing city attorney who's represented the Commission for 50 years.

Do you have general rule for when you recognize outgoing members?

Any ideas for recognition that are out of the standard?

Plaques in a previous location. I suspect those find their way into a storage box. I was on my PC for one term and nothing was given when I left.

We wound up going with blankets monogrammed with the City logo. Cheesy but might get a small bit of use. A few of the retirees were people who had been in public life for 50 plus years and could probably fill an awards case. I figured a blanket might get more use than a paperweight. Plus it cost about half the price.

Why recognize them when I didn't get anything after 31 years other than a thank you ?
