Food / drink 🍗 Let the Arby's bashing begin

Let the Arby's bashing begin!

I can't find the video, but there's a great Marge quote.

I'm really amazed at how much flack Arby's gets. Granted it's an odd concept, but those roast beef sandwiches are so delicious.

Jon Stewart bashes Arby's all the time on The Daily Show. To paraphrase one dig, he said something like: "Arby's, because Ebola isn't the only reason to have a fever and bloody diarrhea."

It's been about 15 years since I ate at Arby's. I dunno, it seemed great in HS as that's what was available at school (yes you read that right), on Tuesdays and Thursdays along with other great establishments such as Subway and regional chain Round Table Pizza but since the nearest Arby's is in the metro LA area, I really haven't had the "urge" to sink my teeth into a roast beef sandwhich. Maybe because i feel the quality of meat is not up to par. Although, Arby's sauce is pretty good for what I remember, then again, that's coming from a former fat kid :D

I used to enjoy a periodic Arby-Q, but then they discontinued it and I haven't been back.

I'll give them credit - they do pile the roast beef on the sandwich. A big pile of bland, thinly cut very ordinary roast beef.

What's up with the curly fries? Does anyone really care if their french fries are straight or curly?

Being something of a sandwich connoiseur, I've always objected to Arby's extremely liberal definition of a reuben. A reuben sandwich has corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing and light or marbled rye bread. It has to be grilled, too. You might hold the sauerkraut and you might (might, I say) still call it a reuben, but all other ingredients are required and no subsitiutions - not pastrami, not turkey, not roast beef). Any other combination may be a delicious sandwich, but don't call it a reuben.

I never had a problem with Arby's They are better than McDonalds, but that's not say much. It's fast food, what do y'all expect.

Agree. I don't don't eat at Arby's often, but have had a decent fast food version of French Dip sandwich. My coworker loves Arby's, and others at work love their fish sandwiches. Given a choice, I'll go some place else.

If I have no choice but to eat fast food, I will prefer Arby's over the burger places. I do stop at McDonald's on occassion to get myself a Diet Coke and to get a cheeseburger (no onions) for the dogs. The will eat a dead frog, so I figure their stomachs can handle it. It is basically the same thing.

If we stop for fast food on a trip & want to stop to eat instead of driving & eating, its usually at Arbys. Mrs. P has the thought that its better fast food that other places. I'll eat there for lunch every couple months or so, but I tend to avoid fast food anyway.

I don't know where the Arby's hatred in pop culture started and I know I'm guilty of perpetuating it, but I actually like Arby's... although I haven't had it in about 5 years.

I was tempted to go on Halloween because if you went in and said, "Trick or Treat!" they would add bacon to everything you ordered, even a milkshake. And who wouldn't want a jamocha and bacon milkshake?

FWIW, I have two sets of Red Wings commemorative pint glasses that I got at Arby's in the early 2000s and they are my favorite glasses at home.

That Simpsons video is the best. LMAO. :lmao:

That being said, I love Arby's. I almost always go for their roast beef sandwiches and curly fries. No healthy deli sandwiches for me! I maybe go there once a month on average. And I always have to stop there when on a road trip.

I also loved it when Arby's posted this on their Twitter account after the Grammys: "Hey Pharrell, can we have our hat back?" :lmao:

STOP THIS THREAD - I CAN'T TAKE IT

Why? Does this look good to you?

5 for 5 was a good deal. Since then it is like Subway. I eat there if I have nowhere else to go, but I don't enjoy it.

I didn't eat at Arby's this weekend.

I am sad, and want that roast beef and cheddar right now.

Arby's are few and far between here. I think the nearest one to me is about 20 minutes away. There are maybe 10 in the whole state. Of course we have a lot of independent places to buy a deli sandwich that is far better.

Arby's always sounds like a good idea, but then I am sadly dissapointed. FYI, Raf there is an Arby's on Broadway in SM if you ever get the urge to drive down there... :-|

We have an Arby's, but we only go there maybe once a year. Not a bad place, just not a place we think about a whole lot.

Our Arbys is in a crap location so we don't go very much (but I like the beef & cheddar).
I'll occasionally get the hankering for a beef and cheddar. I've also hit the age where curly fries cause indigestion. This time of year, I usually get tricked into thinking the fish sandwich is a good idea. It's not.

That sandwich Maister posted looks pretty good. I may have to get me some Arby's next week.

A couple years ago when I was stuck at home with COVID and we had no power for like 3 days because of an ice storm my wife and kids had gone to the beach house to get away from me and once I was was finally feeling well enough to eat I had a sudden craving for a jamocha shake so I went to Arby's for the first time in probably a decade. I got the shake and some curly fries and they were still as good as I always remember them being.

Who else remembers when you could get five Beef and Cheddar sandwiches for $5? Those were the good ole days!

When I was a kid we'd occasionally get Arby's because my dad like the Beef & Cheddars. I would just get regular roast beef sandwiches and but mustard on them.

I haven't been to one in a couple of years but back when my wife and I ate more fast food it was in our rotation.

I last had Arby's last summer. Our store is in need of some major reinvestment and just feels run down, making it unappetizing, at least for me.

I lament the downfall of Rax. Their buns were awesome. (I met Rick Majerus at the one in Muncie, way back when. He had a tray full of sandwiches and fries, as you might well imagine. (RIP Rick.)

Rax...now that's something I haven't had since nearly 30 years ago during my BSU days...

I know that sign well! I have a feeling it's one of the last (maybe, THE last?) remaining old Arby's signs left in the metro area. The Arby's near my office still had one of those signs up until just a few years ago when they remodeled the building and put in a newer one. I am actually sort of surprised that when they do remodel the stores, corporate doesn't find a way to re-incorporate them into the new designs as they're sort of iconic.

These days, whenever I think of Rax, I think of this:

I don't think we ever had any Rax here in Michigan but I remember stopping on occasion if we were headed to see family in Ohio as there were a bunch all along 75 as well as the 80/90 Turnpike.

I thought there used to be some Roy Rogers Roast Beef restaurants in Ohio too but looking at their website now, it looks like they're only located in PA, NOVA, MD, and New Jersey.

When I mention Rax people have no clue what I'm talking about. That was my parents favorite fast food place to go. You could find some odd combinations on the salad bar. I found one of the alligator shaped cups in the back of my parents cupboard a couple of years ago.

Arby's is literally one minute away and I haver never once thought about stopping in.

Nevermind the beef. (Where was it anyway?)

Just heard a talk by a wildlife veterinarian that spoke about bird flu cited in a county next door. They shut down two chix houses last week there.

He says we are playing Russian roulette with our animal, and especially bird viruses.

Birds are the world's host for a host of viruses because many of them migrate, and they use the same body orfice for urine and solid waste.

Viruses, like any organism, strive to survive, and they mutate and trade genetic material with others. How they make the jump to humans is not understood.
