Choosing schools: LSE or Bartlett

Dear Community,
I was wondering if someone could tell me some more about planning programs at UCL and LSE.
I am from America and was considering applying next year to the MSc Regional and Urban Planning Studies program at London School of Economics as well as the MSc International Planning and MSc Urban Development Planning at the Bartlett at UCL. Obviously these degrees provide you with different skill sets and are oriented towards different aspects of planning (i.e. the UCL MSc Urban Development Planning is oriented towards development in the Global South). I was wondering if anybody could provide me with any insight as to what differentiates these programs in terms of quality.

Do employers internationally look more or less favorably on any of these degrees?

I have heard that the LSE program is more ideal if you are into the social policy aspect of planning while the Bartlett programs are slightly more architecturally oriented.

If you were not sure what specific aspect of Planning was more important, if you wanted a degree that would provide you with a solid, internationally oriented, comparative skill-set and framework, which of these programs would be more ideal?

Thank you very much.

Moving the thread to the Student Lounge forum. The Planning in the UK forum will be removed soon.

Personally I will go for Bartlett over LSE just purely for the fact that the Bartlett courses are affiliated with RTPI while LSE's aren't. But this was research done a few years back so you may need to check back with RTPI for the latest affiliations. :D

Bartlett is an RTPI recognised course (depends on your long term plans whether this is a bonus). The course includes an introduction to urban design but is not design/architecture heavy. Lecturers are focussed on planning policy matters mainly nationally (UK) but also internationally - although particularly Europe. LSE does focus more on the economic drivers and implications of planning - has a similar national/international focus; maybe more specialist in london planning?

Both offer good resources, central London location etc. Maybe go for Bartlett if you want a course focussed on a planning career and LSE if you want to focus more on role of planners/planning.

Masters

Hi,
Which course did you end up going for, I've received an offer from UCL in International Planning. If you chose this course I would be very interested in hearing about your experiences. :)

Thanks

Hi there,

I've recently accepted my offer for MSc IP at Bartlett. Are you going to choose UCL?
