This is my Step Dad's hometown. We made a trip there one day to have lunch at Young's Lobster Pound. I went to City Hall because I am a geek. I spoke briefly with their HR person who told me the town is having rapid growth post COVID. Up to about 7,000 people. The last picture was in Bucksport. Gave me a chuckle.

Perry's Nut House is an old tourist trap type gift shop. My Step Dad's mother worked there as a retirement job back in the 80's. We enjoyed our visit. There are differences with a town in Iowa, but there are some things that look very familiar as well.

Is that triangular building with the big door on the enda firehall? We have one in a city 20 miles away. Still has a round hole with a brass pole through the second floor.

We drove through Belfast on our tour of Maine last year. It looked like a great little town. We stopped at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and went up in the observation tower. It was a bit of a surprise to see the bridge in the middle of a fairly rural section, but beautiful views.

No. It's more like a downtown commercial building. It's interesting to see the angled streets. I am so used to grids.

YEEEESSSS!

I'll be heading through in a week on my vacation and will hit up Young's for sure.

I love Belfast- it's a little touristy, but not so much that the Main Street feels fake (there's a hardware store! Right on the main drag!)

You have to look at a map of how far you'd go out of your way to cross the river if that bridge wasn't there to see why it's so big/important.

Great story on that bridge- 42 months concept-to complete! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penobscot_Narrows_Bridge_and_Observatory (Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory - Wikipedia)

Best non-MUTCD crosswalk ever, from Belfast:
